Who is AbafaziPhambili
We are a women led organisation that has been in existence for over 10 years. Founded by Sis’Mantoa Selepe as a community based in 2014 and officially registered in 2020. We advanced Gender Equality on the Ground to the most abandoned, neglected, and underprivileged women who are only remembered during the country’s electoral elections, and aimed at driving socio-economic change.
We are committed to advancing gender equality through practical skills development, educational trainings and economic empowerment through skills training. We address gender equity through partnership with various stakeholders who support us in our mission for gender equality.

To address gender inequalities, we focus our mission on three interconnected strategies that create lasting transformation
We empower underprivileged women through skills development, artisan training and economic participation, helping them build sustainable livelihoods and achieve greater financial independence. Through this work, we contribute to reducing poverty and unemployment while strengthening opportunities within communities. We strive to build an entrepreneurial culture within communities by supporting local manufacturing, local businesses and local trade.
We work towards a society where we empower women by giving them practical skills so that they are able to make choices from a point of freedom and power to change their circumstances and make a difference in their own lives and families.
True gender equity cannot exist without financial independence of women who are economically empowered, have access to formal education, equal opportunities, knowledge, and power to exit toxic abusive enviroment.
We hold events themed “Conversations with Sis’ Mantoa”, creating spaces where women can learn, share their experiences, find support and better understand the social realities affecting their lives. These safe and supportive spaces allow women to raise the issues and concerns affecting their lives within a system of inequalities shaped by triple oppression — unemployment, poverty and inequality. These realities continue to shape women’s social and economic lives.
We take these conversations beyond the room by connecting women with relevant institutions that may be able to assist them. We also extend these issues to our digital magazine, Conversations with Sis’ Mantoa, giving women’s voices and experiences a wider platform. We further provide emotional support to women who are in distress, experiencing personal hardships and affected by structural inequalities, with support facilitated by our psychologist
We also teach young men in conversations about gender equality and healthy masculinity, helping to build greater understanding, respect and healthier relationships.
Women, particularly underprivileged women, are often politically exploited by dominant leading political parties and used for political gain, especially when it comes to voting. Many are not given enough information to fully understand their rights, their choices and the power of their vote.
Through civic education, we help women understand their rights, their voices and their power to participate in decisions that affect their lives, families and communities. This education strengthens their knowledge and understanding, enabling them to make informed choices at the ballot box and choose leaders who will serve their best interests. This is aimed to encourage women to participate in governance and demand accountability.
Why we exist
It is important to give women skills so that they can
play an equal part in society, make informed decisions, and
participate in all spheres of society from a more grounded,
empowered place where finances and dignity are intact, and
they are not making decisions based on their mere survival.
This then contributes to stronger families and communities.
